Jon Ruben pleaded guilty to 17 charges at the courthouse on Friday

An individual who spiked sweets with sedative and distributed them to children at a summer camp in the region has admitted sexual offences against two boys both nine and ten years old.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and an older person became sick at the location in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from that region, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the courthouse on Friday.

Nevertheless, he denied a single sexual charge he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was remanded in custody prior to a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, described the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She said his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer program which he ran.

The man played a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior said, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She told the court Ruben had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and children had previously fallen ill the next day.

She stated the man had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.

The prosecutor added: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about the situation, justifiably.

"They decided to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor said objects including baby oil, Vaseline and medical needles were located, and his family member contacted the police about his suspicions.

She said the man went on to play the "sweet game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.

"The police had not arrived by that stage," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

Mrs Prior explained the minors were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the stepson notified the law enforcement again.

She stated Ruben then engaged in the "sweet game" in a area of five children.
